The top man at European giants Ajax has lifted the lid on the truth behind reported West Ham talks over a deal for Steven Bergwijn.
There is growing confusion over West Ham’s reported pursuit of Ajax attacker Steven Bergwijn.
There have been conflicting reports over the last few days regarding yet another West Ham raid on the Amsterdam club.
Claims from Holland last month stated West Ham technical director Tim Steidten was lining up a move to bring Bergwijn back to London – where he failed to flourish at Spurs – from Ajax.

Conflicting reports over Hammers target
Bergwijn himself was coy when asked directly about rumours of a move to West Ham.
Renowned transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano reported over the weekend that Bergwijn remains a big West Ham target for the January transfer window.
And reports from top sources in Holland and Sky Sports here in the UK claimed Ajax and the player are open to a deal with the Hammers who are said to be discussing both loan and permanent deals.
Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg denied Bergwijn is a ‘serious’ target for the Hammers at the weekend.
So West Ham fans don’t know what to believe.

Top man at Ajax lifts lid on Bergwijn truth
Well now the top man at European giants Ajax has lifted the lid on the truth behind West Ham talks over a deal for Bergwijn.
Kelvin de Lang is the acting technical director after Ajax sacked Sven Mislintat over his decision to sell Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus to West Ham in the summer.
And De Lang claims West Ham are yet to contact him for Bergwijn, insisting the Dutch champions want to keep their captain.
“I only read that online,” De Lang told Algemeen Dagblad.
“They didn’t call me; I can promise you.”

That call may come after injuries
That may well change very soon following the injuries to Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta in the FA Cup draw with Bristol City.
Lines of communication were open between West Ham and Ajax when Mislintat was there as he did the deals with fellow German Steidten.
But it seems the progress of this deal reported at the weekend may have been overblown – as is often the case in the January window.
Dutch international Bergwijn, 26, was sold to Ajax in the summer of 2022 after just eight goals in 83 appearances for Tottenham.
If he did join West Ham he would be reunited with Kudus, Alvarez and assistant coach John Heitinga, who coached him in Amsterdam.
