Tottenham Hotspur have just done West Ham United a huge favour in the January transfer window.

They may be fierce rivals with an unofficial transfer embargo in place between them, but Tottenham Hotspur have performed a rare act of kindness for West Ham.

Everyone knows there’s no love lost between the Hammers and Spurs.

But West Ham fans may feel differently about the north Londoners after what they’ve just selflessly done for them in the transfer market.

Because Tottenham have just done West Ham a huge favour in the January transfer window.

Tottenham have just done West Ham a huge favour

The rivals are both looking to sign a striker this month.

The likes of 90min claimed RB Leipzig outcast Timo Werner was interesting West Ham and Tottenham among other clubs.

And yesterday we reported that Spurs had “beaten” West Ham to the “capture” of ex Chelsea forward Werner.

Many Tottenham fans have been steadfastly defending the rather questionable signing.

The prospect of signing Werner had sparked debate among West Ham fans as to whether it would be a wise move for a player who ended up as a Premier League laughing stock at Chelsea.

Signing a 27-year-old with a poor goalscoring record in recent seasons who was a £53m flop in the Premier League seems very unwise.

Finding Timo

It also begs the question – have West Ham played Tottenham like a fiddle here with faux interest in a smoke a mirrors move while they work on their actual targets? If the Hammers were genuinely interested then Daniel Levy and the gang have saved them from themselves.

It says everything that supporters of the likes of West Ham, Arsenal and Chelsea have been ridiculing Tottenham for signing Werner.

The forward was excellent in Germany before arriving at Chelsea. But his highlights reels since are of glaring misses rather than goals.

Spurs fans will have the last laugh if Werner rediscovers his form of years ago under Ange Postecoglou.

But Tim Steidten and David Moyes can probably rest easy that he won’t.

As far as most West Ham fans are concerned, Tottenham are welcome to Werner.
