Hammers target Steven Bergwijn would be a superb signing for West Ham in the January window – just ask Spurs fans.
West Ham are being heavily linked with a move for Ajax star Steven Bergwijn in the January transfer window and it appears to be progressing rapidly.
Last night we brought you news from Holland and Sky Sports claiming a deal is very much on the cards as David Moyes looks for a left-sided attacker.
But the potential transfer for the ex Spurs forward appears to be dividing Hammers supporters.
Many are questioning whether the Dutchman would be a good addition and claiming he “flopped” at Tottenham Hotspur.

But that is not an accurate portrayal of the 26-year-old’s time at Tottenham in any way, shape or form.
He was sold to Ajax in the summer of 2022 after just eight goals in 83 appearances for Tottenham.
But Bergwijn would be a superb signing for West Ham – just ask Spurs fans.
Many Tottenham supporters feel their club gave up on the versatile attacker far too early.
In fact when West Ham were first linked with a move for Bergwijn back in November, it caught the attention of Spurs fans who feel the decision to ship him off to Ajax would be exposed as a mistake by the Hammers.

‘Dutchman hard done by at Tottenham’
Popular Tottenham Hotspur site Spurs Web reported on Bergwijn’s links to West Ham and made it clear he was hard done by in north London.
Despite the fierce rivalry between the two clubs, the site even went as far as to recommend their former winger, claiming he was never given a fair chance at Tottenham.
“Bergwijn did quite well at Spurs whenever he got opportunities (which were few and far between under Antonio Conte) and he certainly showed that he is more than good enough for the Premier League,” the site stated.
“David Moyes likes attackers who are quick, strong and have a good engine, which is why it is not surprising that the Hammers are considering a move for the former Tottenham man.”
Quite why any West Ham fans are questioning technical director Tim Steidten is also baffling.

In Steidten (and Heitinga) we trust
The German showed why he is considered one of the elite in the business by overseeing the best window West Ham have had in years during the summer.
His hit rate was excellent. Steidten also has history when it comes to Ajax. The hugely popular Hammers technical director pulled off two of the deals of the summer window signing Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez for a combined £72m.
West Ham sorely need more pace and power on the left and Bergwijn has both in abundance as well as great skill.
He can also operate across all forward positions too. At 26 he is a great age and given the spell with Spurs he may even arrive with the bit between his teeth and something to prove.
Bergwijn would be reunited with Kudus, Alvarez and John Hetinga at West Ham. The latter managed him during a spell as interim boss so knows the player and character very well. He is clearly vouching for him too which speaks volumes.
His stats in a poor Ajax team are also very decent for a wide forward. Bergwijn has eight goals and three assists in 18 starts this season. And he scored 14 goals and laid on six assists last term in 36 starts. Bergwijn has also scored three and laid on one assist in his last six starts for Holland.
In Steidten (and Heitinga) we trust.
