First Team Squad

West Ham have been blessed with tremendous players over the years, including Paolo Di Canio, Geoff Hurst and Bobby Moore.

The current squad also has some fantastic players. It includes a grand total of 22, with an average age of 28.2.

Here is West Ham’s first-team squad under manager David Moyes for the 2022/23 season.

West Ham Goalkeepers

Alphonse Areola

Alphonse Areola joined West Ham in 2022 from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain. The towering French goalkeeper was an academy graduate of PSG, who spent the early parts of his career on loan, enjoying spells with Lens, Bastia, and Villarreal.

Lukasz Fabianski

West Ham’s number one is Lukasz Fabianski. He joined the Hammers in 2018, following a fantastic season with fellow English side, Swansea. The Pole has been an ever-present force between the sticks since and has come up with countless vital saves.

West Ham Defenders

Nayef Aguerd

Nayef Aguerd signed from Stade Rennais in 2022 for a whopping £30m. The Algerian centre-half was one of the finest defenders in Ligue 1 during the 22/23 season and was snapped up by Moyes and brought to the London Stadium.

Kurt Zouma

Kurt Zouma has a wealth of footballing experience, having previously played for Chelsea and the French national team. He is also a Champions League winner, bringing a winning mentality to West Ham’s backline.

Thilo Kehrer

Thilo Kehrer, alongside Areola, joined from Paris Saint Germain in 2022. His versatility is very useful to Moyes, being comfortable playing both right-back and centre-back.

Angelo Ogbonna

Angelo Ogbonna is one of West Ham’s greatest servants in recent years. The Italian veteran has been at the club since 2015 and is still a fantastic asset to Moyes.

Emerson

Italian full-back Emerson came to West Ham from neighbouring London club, Chelsea, in 2022. Emerson possesses fantastic attacking qualities and has a keen eye for goal for a full-back.

Aaron Cresswell

West Ham’s longest-serving current player is Aaron Cresswell. The Englishman has been a Hammer since 2013 – where he joined from Ipswich Town for a measly £2m.

Ben Johnson

Young English right-back Ben Johnson came through West Ham’s academy system and has managed to cement himself as a regular player in the Hammers first team squad.

Vladimir Coufal

No-nonsense full-back Vladimir Coufal joined from Slavia Prague in 2020. His services cost just £5m, which is a steal looking back on it.

West Ham Midfielders

Declan Rice

West Ham’s pride and joy is Declan Rice. The English holding midfielder came through the academy scheme and has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the league, whilst also captaining the Hammers after taking the armband from Mark Noble following his retirement.

Tomas Soucek

Tomas Soucek arrived with Coufal from Slavia Prague in the same window and was also a fine pick-up. The towering midfielder has been immense since his arrival and popped up with some huge goals, particularly in the 2021/22 season.

Flynn Downes

Flynn Downes grew up a Hammers supporter but began his own career with Ipswich Town, where he spent 15 years. In 2022, he secured his dream move to the London Stadium to play for the team he grew up watching.

Lucas Paqueta

Lucas Paqueta was a summer acquisition for Moyes in 2022. The tricky Brazilian star was one of Europe’s hottest prospects when he was at Lyon, but hasn’t quite yet showcased what he’s all about in the Premier League as of yet.

Pablo Fornals

Pablo Fornals has been a fantastic player for West Ham. He joined from Villarreal in 2019 for around £24m and has played in countless big games for the club.

Manuel Lanzini

Manuel Lanzini has also been a fantastic servant and player for West Ham. A scorer of brilliant goals, a fantastic dribbler and an all-round top player.

West Ham Forwards

Said Benrahma

Said Benrahma joined the Hammers following a very impressive season with Brentford in the Championship. The Algerian has proven he can make the step up to the Premier League and has also been one of the club’s star men in their Europa League and Europa Conference League runs.

Maxwel Cornet

Maxwel Cornet was undeniably the best player in the Burnley side that was relegated in 2022, so it was a no-brainer for Moyes to bring him to the London Stadium. The Ivorian has blistering pace and a cracking left peg.

Jarrod Bowen

Speaking of left-footed players, Jarrod Bowen has an absolute wand of a left foot. An inspired acquisition from Hull City, Bowen has been phenomenal as a Hammer, with his performances recognized on a National level following his England call-ups.

Gianluca Scamacca

A towering presence at 6’5 and capable of scoring all types of goals, Gianluca Scamacca is one of Europe’s top young strikers, having scored 16 Serie A goals in the 2021/22 season. He hasn’t hit the ground running in England, but the young man will still have a lot to prove during his time here.

Danny Ings

Danny Ings is one of the Premier League’s most prolific goal scorers in recent times. He’s featured for Burnley, Southampton and Aston Villa, but has now made his way to West Ham United in the latter stages of his career. Nevertheless, he still knows where the net is and has provided some big goals for the Hammers already in his short tenure here.

Michail Antonio

Michail Antonio will go down in history as a West Ham legend. He’s the club’s top Premier League goalscorer ever and has provided so many happy moments for Hammers fans over the years.
