Crysencio Summerville is one of three West Ham players to be linked with a move to Manchester United, though a Red Devils legend is not yet convinced about the £50 million-rated winger.

While Hammers News reported a week ago that Manchester United are in the box seat for Mateus Fernandes, Michael Carrick’s side have emerged as a potential destination for another London Stadium favourite.

According to The Athletic’s king of transfers David Ornstein, an enquiry has arrived from Old Trafford for Crysencio Summerville.

Nicky Butt certainly admires Summerville’s ability to go from nought-to-sixty in the blink of an eye. What the six-time Premier League champion is less enamoured about, however, is Summerville’s tendency to flit from unplayable to erratic.

Nicky Butt sees pros and cons to Manchester United signing West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville

“He’s an explosive player, he’s good to watch,” Butt tells PaddyPower. “But I don’t think he’s consistent enough.”

Summerville has only scored eight goals in 56 games since joining West Ham from Leeds in 2024. Seven of those eight goals came in a remarkable ten-game purple patch earlier in the year.

Butt watched on as Summerville opened his Netherlands account in the 2-2 draw with Japan in their World Cup opener, though. What the Rotterdam-born speedster lacks in consistency, he could make up for with his undoubted potential.

Butt, who played 387 games under Sir Alex Ferguson, would be open to the idea of Summerville moving to Manchester provided the price-tag is not overly-prohibitive. Then again, as West Ham stand firm on Fernandes’ £80 million asking price, it feels unlikely that the ambitious Daniel Kretinsky would consider any low-ball offers for Summerville.

“United have to build a squad,” Butt adds. “It can’t be all about going and getting the superstar signings.

“Summerville was brilliant for the Netherlands in the first game, so he could potentially start every week for Man United. I’m looking at him thinking he’s got to get a lot more consistent to get to the next level, but I’d still definitely look at signing a player like him.”

Roma and Liverpool unlikely as PSG reports emerge in France

Alongside Summerville and Fernandes, El Hadji Malick Diouf has been mentioned as a potential addition to Carrick’s Champions League-bound side.

However, well-placed sources have suggested that Man United do not feel Diouf is ‘ready’ to compete with Luke Shaw for a starting spot at left-back at this stage in his development.

Summerville had 19 goals & 9 assists in the 23/24 Championship season! 🔥

According to The Telegraph, Man United will need to move on Marcus Rashford before they can make a move for Summerville. That will be easier said than done, with the Englishman earning a staggering £300,000-a-week. Liverpool appear out of contention for West Ham’s number seven, meanwhile, after signing Victor Munoz for Osasuna for a fee of £35 million.

Long-time admirers Roma can no longer afford Summerville, while Paris Saint-Germain have been mentioned in passing.

“Regarding Summerville, I simply want to point out that it’s true that Roma had asked for information in the past,” Italian reporter Matteo Moretto said on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel.

“Given the type of operation, especially the amount involved, it’s a really complicated operation for Roma.

“In fact I’d almost completely rule it out, because today there are clubs like Manchester United who are coming forward in a more concrete way. So for now, Summerville and Italy are two things that I wouldn’t put together.”
