For West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville, it is not quite Manchester United or nothing, but the number of destinations open to him appear to be growing shorter by the day.
After Michael Carrick’s Man United expressed their interest in the £50 million-rated winger, reports from Italy claim that long-time admirers AS Roma have seen their dreams of luring Summerville to Italy squashed.
Roma simply cannot afford to get themselves in a bidding war for a forward valued well beyond their financial means.
DISCUSS: How much would you sell Crysencio Summerville for this summer? 💰
Summerville's value is only going one way after his World Cup heroics 📈
The idea of Summerville doing a Mohammed Kudus and joining Tottenham has been dismissed out of hand. And now that Liverpool are going all in on Victor Munoz, one of the only links that really makes much sense right now for West Ham United and Crysencio Summerville is, yes, the Old Trafford one.
Liverpool will not be signing West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville
The transfer window has only been open a few days and already Newcastle have received their first high-profile snubbing of the summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have hijacked Newcastle’s pursuit of Osasuna winger Victor Munoz. Personal terms are agreed, and the £35 million release clause has been triggered.

This means the Pamplona power cube – Munoz is small in stature but colossal in quality – is on his way to Anfield rather than St James’ Park.
Deja vu for Newcastle. Another top target slipping through their grasp. No wonder the Newcastle fans are so bemused by Steve Nickson’s impending move to West Ham. The decision to hand so much power over to Eddie Howe and his nephew-turned-scout Andy, rather than promote head of recruitment Nickson to a sporting director role, continues to baffle.
As for the Hammers, Liverpool spending £35 million on Victor Munoz will see Summerville crossed off their summer hit-list.
Manchester United hope to sign both Summerville and Mateus Fernandes
It is no secret that the two-time Premier League champions are long-time admirers of the former Leeds forward, who famously scored a late winner at Anfield back in 2022. The departure of Arne Slot made a move to Liverpool a bit more unlikely. Andoni Iraola’s predecessor on Merseyside famously wanted to sign Summerville while the head coach of Feyenoord, after all.
Instead, it will be Victor Munoz who ends Liverpool’s pretty brief search for a new left-winger.
Cry joins a very exclusive club! But who is YOUR pick to be the World Cup’s top scorer?

Tottenham ruled out, Roma lacking the funds and Liverpool looking elsewhere. Manchester United are leading the race for Mateus Fernandes. And, suddenly, the signs may be pointing towards Old Trafford for his West Ham teammate, too.
“So, regarding Summerville, I simply want to point out that it’s true; Roma had asked for information in the past,” Italian reporter Matteo Moretto said on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel.
“But given the type of operation, especially the amount involved, it’s a really complicated operation for Roma.
“In fact I’d almost completely rule it out, because today there are clubs like Manchester United who are coming forward in a more concrete way. So for now, Summerville and Italy are two things that I wouldn’t put together.”
During that 2-2 draw between the Netherlands and Japan on Monday, Summerville became only the sixth player to score a World Cup goal while under contract with West Ham. He joins Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters, Lucas Paqueta, Matthew Upson and Javier Hernandez in a very exclusive club.
