Champions League finalists Arsenal and PSG both want West Ham star Mateus Fernandes but the Hammers believe Manchester United have the edge over both with a reluctant sale likely.

Arsenal, Man United, PSG and Real Madrid are just four of the plethora of clubs interested in signing West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes this summer.

In a Hammers News exclusive, West Ham’s board vowed to try and keep Fernandes amid interest from Man United.

Why Man United have the edge over Arsenal for Fernandes

The club also said any bid less than their £80m valuation would be laughed off despite relegation.

Manchester United and Premier League champions Arsenal have both registered their interest with the Hammers for the brilliant all-action 21-year-old.

Daniel Kretinsky has vowed to keep as many of West Ham’s top players as possible after becoming the club’s majority owner.

Kretinsky purchasing another 16 per cent of the Hammers injects £90m into the club, meaning West Ham now have no urgent need or requirement to sell players to satisfy financial rules before the end of June.

That has actually played into Man United’s hands and all but ruled out Arsenal in the race for Fernandes.

In fact West Ham believe Man United have the edge over Arsenal and PSG for Fernandes.

PSG have given Kretinsky a major £112m dilemma with a double bid for West Ham stars Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville.

But Hammers News understands reports the Red Devils are closing on a deal with West Ham for Fernandes are indeed accurate.

Red Devils will pay West Ham’s £80m asking price but Arsenal won’t

And there is a key factor which has seen Man United push to the front of the queue ahead of the Gunners and their Champions League final foes Paris Saint-Germain.

Man United are willing to meet West Ham’s £80m valuation of Fernandes, whether that be with realistic add-ons or a straight deal while Arsenal, Hammers News has been told by a leading transfer source, will not go above £60m.

Just how important is it that Paco Jemez RETURNS to West Ham?

Claims from France that PSG are ready to bid for Fernandes are true.

Luis Enrique wants the top talent and the club’s owners are willing to back him by paying West Ham’s £80m valuation.

But Man United still hold the edge because Fernandes prefers a move to Man United and the Premier League over Ligue 1 – not least because he wants to play alongside one of his idols and namesake Bruno Fernandes.

Now West Ham are under no pressure to sell players, they could play suitors off against one another to spark a bidding war.

However, Man United are believed to be keen to get a deal done as soon as possible, a task made easier by the fact Fernandes is not – to much surprise after promises made by Roberto Martinez – in Portugal’s World Cup squad.

West Ham would love to keep Fernandes to help them secure an instant return to the top flight.

But the club are also realistic about what £80m will do for their much-needed overhaul – while also taking the player’s wishes and ambitions into account given the Hammers have been relegated.
