Graham Potter faces an incredibly difficult summer ahead at West Ham United, but Manchester United could do him a huge favour.

West Ham have allegedly told Graham Potter that he needs to sell some players before he brings any in, and that’s where Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim comes in.

Potter needs to get rid of some of the deadwood at the London Stadium, before building a younger, more energetic group of players.

The Hammers head coach has grand plans for a big rebuild this summer, but he clearly needs to raise funds first.

Sure, the Hammers may have to sacrifice one of our stars to the fund the squad revamp.

However, there are many other options for Potter.

And one hugely exciting opportunity has just now presented itself, according a report out in Spain at least.

Manchester United in for West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd

Hammers owned centre-back Nayef Aguerd is currently enjoying a successful loan spell out in Spain with Real Sociedad.

And he could be set for a permanent exit from the London Stadium in the summer.

Aguerd joined West Ham from Rennes in the summer of 2022 for around £27 million.

It has actually been claimed that Potter could bring Aguerd back to West Ham in the summer in order to run his eye over him during pre-season training.

However, that would be a disastrous move – West Ham must sell Nayef Aguerd whilst his stock his high.

Enter Man United…

According to Fichajes, Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is keen to bring the Morocco international to Old Trafford this summer.

The Hammers have allegedly slapped a £33 million on Aguerd, and if we manage to get anything like that for him, it will be an unbelievably good result.

What has Nayef Aguerd said about returning to West Ham

The former Rennes centre-back hasn’t closed the door on a return to the London Stadium.

He spoke to reporters back in December and admitted that playing for West Ham again isn’t out of the question:

“I’m not going to lie. I came here to find my best level again, first of all, because I wasn’t playing at West Ham and I want to enjoy every moment here, as I am doing,” he said.

“I still have two years left on my contract with West Ham, but now I’m only thinking about helping Real go as far as possible in the three competitions and then there will be time to think about the future.”

“I don’t know if I’ll have to go back, I don’t know if I’ll stay here, I don’t know if I’ll go anywhere else, it’s not in my hands.”

The thing is, West Ham absolutely cannot fall into the trap of thinking that Nayef Aguerd’s success out in Spain will translate into improved performances for the club in the Premier League next season.

Fortunately for us though, it seems like Manchester united may have done exactly that.
