Big twist may well see Graham Potter bring 53-cap international loanee back to West Ham

A familiar face could be set to return to West Ham United under the say-so of Graham Potter it seems.

Graham Potter will be well aware of just how much work and attention the current West Ham squad needs.

The Hammers head coach will obviously have to bring numerous new signings to the London Stadium in the summer transfer window.

Certain players will definitely be leaving at the end of the season, with Guido Rodriguez expected to be the first man out the door.

However, the 49-year-old will be planning how he can get the best out of some of the players who haven’t performed to their best levels over the past couple of years with us.

One player in particular may well be given a new lease of life under Potter during the off-season.

However, I can’t help but feel like it would be a big mistake giving him another chance.

Graham Potter could bring Nayef Aguerd back to West Ham

According to a report from club insiders Claret and Hugh, Aguerd could well be given a big chance to impress during pre-season.

He has been playing really well out in Spain with Real Sociedad this term, after joining them on deadline day in the summer of 2024.

The Moroccan has kept more clean sheets than another other player in La Liga this season – quite the feat.

In fact, Aguerd has been so impressive for Sociedad that Barcelona and Real Madrid allegedly now want to sign him in the summer.

I think moving him on permanently from the London Stadium will be the correct call.

After all, he has proven time and time again that he is not suited to playing Premier League football one little bit.

Nayef Aguerd is not what we need at West Ham

The 53-capped Morocco international failed miserably during his time with West Ham.

He’s nowhere near physical enough to succeed in the English game.

It really doesn’t surprise me one little bit that Aguerd has been a big hit in La Liga after disappointing so much in the Premier League.

The Spanish top tier is played at a far slower pace than the English league, and the intensity and robustness of Premier League football is like night and day from La Liga.

I guess there’s nothing wrong with Graham Potter giving West Ham owned Nayef Aguerd a chance to impress him during the off-season.

However, I really can’t see a future for the 28-year-old at the London Stadium.

He’s not the type of defender we need if we are to make some real progress under Potter, as far as I’m concerned.
