West Ham must sell £27 million man whilst his stock is high and not fall into the same old trap

West Ham United have to sell some players this summer, in order to raise funds for Graham Potter.

The summer transfer window will be a crucial one for West Ham, with Graham Potter planning a big squad revamp.

One area at the London Stadium where the Hammers head coach is desperate to strengthen is his central defensive department.

Koni De Winter is said to be a transfer target for West Ham this summer, and he’d be an excellent addition for us.

There are plenty of other names in the mix as well, and perhaps Potter will need to sign two centre-backs if he plans on using three central defenders moving forward.

However, in order to bring someone in, the Hammers chief must move a defender on first, with finances tight at the club right now.

And the Hammers boss has the perfect opportunity to recoup some serious funds for someone who will never succeed with us.

West Ham must sell Nayef Aguerd whilst his stock is high

Nayef Aguerd joined West Ham from Rennes in the summer of 2022 for around £27 million.

However, his time at West Ham was a very painful spell for him, and for the fans watching him in all fairness.

The 28-year-old is very good with the ball at his feet but he got bullied week in, week out in the Premier League.

His positional awareness was atrocious as well, and he was beaten time and time again by simple balls over the top.

Aguerd was a terrible fit for Premier League football.

If there is a chance to recoup anything like the fee the Hammers paid for him nearly three years ago, the owners should move him on without thinking twice.

The Moroccan’s stock is incredibly high right now remember…

Nayef Aguerd has done something no other La Liga player has done

It has actually been claimed that Potter could bring Aguerd back to West Ham in the summer.

I really think the Hammers boss should sell the centre-back though. I think some fans seem to be forgetting just how poor he was for us.

However, he is flourishing out in La Liga, and has done something that no other La Liga player has been able to do.

Real Sociedad have kept the second most clean sheets in Spain’s top flight this season (12).

And West Ham-owned centre-back Nayef Aguerd has been a part of 10 of those for Sociedad – a number bettered by not one single player in La Liga.

So he clearly has something about him. However, his skill-set simply doesn’t translate into success in the Premier League.

Potter and West Ham cannot fall into the trap of thinking Nayef Aguerd’s impressive La Liga form will lead on to a renaissance for him with West Ham in the Premier League.

Sell him while his stock is high.
