West Ham United have opted against signing Peterborough centre-back Ronnie Edwards for one very simple reason.
Ronnie Edwards was believed to be firmly on the West Ham radar, and we actually made a £4 million bid for the 20-year-old back in the summer according to Barry Fry.
Then, reports emerged earlier this week suggesting that we are back in the race to sign him. However, it seems like the Hammers are no longer chasing Edwards’ signature.
Claret and Hugh are claiming that David Moyes no longer wants to bring the Peterborough man to the London Stadium.
Now, Moyes really does need to sign a centre-back this winter, with Nayef Aguerd away at AFCON and the Moroccan being heavily linked with a London Stadium exit.
In addition to that, Kurt Zouma is continuing to struggle with his fitness whilst Konstantinos Mavropanos left the field against Bristol City on Sunday with an injury.
However, those problems clearly aren’t enough for Moyes to rush in and sign Edwards…

West Ham reject Ronnie Edwards
Claret and Hugh reckon that the reason why Moyes chose not to pursue a move for the 20-year-old Peterborough defender was because he thought he was too small to be a centre-back in the Premier League.
I actually really like Edwards, and I feel like he’d have been a strong signing for us. Just because he’s only 6ft tall doesn’t mean that he hasn’t got a better leap than someone who is 6ft 3in, just look at 5ft 11in Manchester City ace Nathan Ake!
In 25 League One outings for Peterborough this season, Edwards has averaged one tackle, one interception, 4.4 clearances and two successful aerial duels per game (Who Scored).
The Peterborough defender is a very good passer of the football as well. He’s averaged 86.2 passes per game and has recorded a completion rate of 91.6% (Who Scored).
At just 20, he obviously is still a bit raw, and probably wouldn’t be ready to play in the Premier League just yet.
However, Ronnie Edwards would have been a fine addition for West Ham in the long-term as far as I’m concerned. Moyes clearly doesn’t agree with that sentiment though!
