West Ham United are reportedly keen to sign a young Essex-born centre-back in January.

David Moyes needs to bring a new centre-back to West Ham in the January transfer window, with Kurt Zouma struggling with his fitness and Nayef Aguerd currently away at AFCON with Morocco.

The Hammers manager has really limited options now in central defence, with Konstantinos Mavropanos and Angelo Ogbonna playing the last two games together.

And Moyes is obviously now ready to bolster his defensive ranks at the London Stadium in January.

According to the Daily Mail, Peterborough United defender Ronnie Edwards is firmly on the West Ham radar this winter- we actually made a £4 million bid for the 20-year-old back in the summer according to Barry Fry.

Born in Harlow, Essex, Edwards is a top young talent, and I think he’d be a really good signing for us…

West Ham want to sign Essex-born centre-back in January

Moyes is allegedly in the hunt to sign the Peterborough youngster this winter, but he could face competition from Aston Villa and Crystal Palace for his signature.

I think Edwards is definitely someone who West Ham should be pursuing, and if we have to pay £8-10 million for him, then I think that would be good business.

In 25 League One outings for Peterborough this season, Edwards has averaged one tackle, one interceptions, 4.4 clearances and two successful aerial duels per game (Who Scored).

The Peterborough defender is a very good passer of the football as well. He’s averaged 86.2 passes per game and has recorded a completion rate of 91.6% (Who Scored).

He is a very solid defender but has real quality when in possession of the football. And if Moyes brings the 20-year-old centre-back to West Ham in January, I’ll be more than happy.
