West Ham United have allegedly made a move to sign Jan Bednarek on a season-long loan from Southampton before deadline day.

That’s according to a report from The Sun who claim that any potential move to sign the 26-year-old Southampton ace will depend on whether or not Craig Dawson leaves the London Stadium.

West Ham boss David Moyes has been linked with a move to sign Bednarek over the past week or so.

Those rumours have gathered momentum since reports emerged suggesting that Dawson wants to move away from the London Stadium in order to be nearer to his home in Manchester.

And now it seems as though the Hammers have made the first concrete move to sign a potential replacement for Daws…

The Sun reckon that the Hammers have made an enquiry to bring the 26-year-old Saints defender to the London Stadium on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 42-capped Poland international could be available for around £13 million this summer (Give Me Sport).

Now, we think that the 26-year-old could be a decent signing for West Ham.

He was in the top 10 in the Premier League for both interceptions and clearances last season (Premier League’s official website).

In 31 Premier league appearances last term, Bednarek averaged one tackle, 2.3 interceptions, 4.5 clearances and 2.9 successful aerial duels per game (Who Scored).

During those outings, he made 46.6 passes on average per match and recorded a completion rate of 81.7% (Who Scored).

He has been described as a ‘brick wall’ by The Athletic. Meanwhile, BT Sport have labelled him as ‘outstanding’.

Moyes is fairly well covered in the centre-back department. With Angelo Ogbonna now 34, and Dawson facing an uncertain future at the London Stadium though, the addition of another younger central defender may not be a bad thing.

And if West Ham manage to sign Jan Bednarek before deadline day, we think that will be a very good thing for the East London outfit.
