West Ham United have allegedly just made a €16 million (£13 million) bid for Fenerbahce centre-back Attila Szalai.

That’s according to a report from Sabah (print edition 28 August, page 15) who claim that the Hammers are very keen to bring the 24-year-old defender to the London Stadium before deadline day.

David Moyes has already strengthened his centre-back ranks at the London Stadium this summer with the signings of Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer.

Aguerd is currently out injured with an ankle problem though. On top of that, Craig Dawson is being linked with a move to Aston Villa.

And it seems as though Moyes has someone in particular in mind…

West Ham make Attila Szalai bid

Sabah (print edition 28 August, page 15) claims that the Hammers have lodged a £13 million bid for the Hungary international.

We think that Szalai would be a superb addition for the club.

He really does have absolutely everything that the Hammers need at the moment.

The physically imposing Fenerbahce centre-back seems to be tailor made for the Premier League.

Standing at 6ft 4in tall, the 24-capped Hungary international is an imposing figure. He is incredibly strong, athletic and dominant in the air.

In 32 Super Lig games for Fenerbahce last season, Szalai bagged one goal and two assists. During those appearances, he averaged 1.1 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and two clearances per game (Who Scored).

He made 43.8 passes per match and recorded a completion rate of 81% (Who Scored).

Szalai’s former manager Petros Konnafis once labeled him as an ‘unbelievable’ defender and likened him to Virgil van Dijk (First Time Finish).

West Ham would be wise to get a deal for Attila Szalai wrapped up as soon as possible with Aston Villa said to be lurking as well.

And if we can pick him up for £13 million, that would be great business for the club.
