Aston Villa are allegedly now eyeing a move to sign West Ham United centre-back Craig Dawson before deadline day.
That’s according to a report from The Sun who claim that Dawson could be tempted to join Aston Villa due to guarantees of more regular first-team action.

Dawson, 32, originally joined the Hammers on a season-long loan from Watford in October 2020 at a cost of just £1 million. West Ham then made his move to the London Stadium a permanent one for a further £3 million in the summer of 2021 (The Sun).
£4 million for the no-nonsense, tough-tackling centre-back now seems like an absolute bargain.

Daws has established himself as a cult hero at West Ham but he’s actually a lot more than that. He’s a very good good defender, and labelling him as a cult hero really doesn’t do him justice.
He has struggled with injuries this season though, and is yet to make a competitive appearance. What’s more, it seems as though we might not see Dawson in a West Ham shirt again…
Aston Villa want to sign Craig Dawson from West Ham
According to The Sun, Steven Gerrard is keen to bring the 32-year-old Hammer to Aston Villa in order to shore up his central defensive department, after the injury suffered by Diego Carlos.
Dawson earns £52k-a-week at the London Stadium (Salary Sport).
The 32-year-old’s current contract with the Hammers expires next summer. So the simple fact of the matter is that David Moyes would prefer to pick up a small fee for him now rather than risk losing him for nothing next year.
Moyes has brought two international centre-backs to the club this summer in the form of Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer.
As a areuslt, Dawson’s playing time will undoubtedly be limited this season when he returns from injury.

So perhaps a move to Aston Villa from West Ham will make sense this summer for Craig Dawson.
We don’t want to see the 32-year-old leave, he has been a really good player for us.
Some transfers just seems to come at the right time though.
And Craig Dawson joining Aston Villa from West Ham before deadline day really wouldn’t be a shock as far as we’re concerned. Especially considering the quality of the central defenders that Moyes now has at his disposal.
Having said all of that, we’d still like to keep him around…you can’t help but love Daws can you!
