West Ham United’s transfer window appears – on the face of it at least – to be going from bad to worse thanks to rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

West Ham currently hold the bragging rights over Tottenham having finished above them last season.

Sixth spot secured Europa League football for the Hammers and they dumped Spurs into the much-maligned UEFA Conference League in the process.

Spurs to get some revenge on West Ham as they swoop for longstanding Moyes target Caleta-Car

But Tottenham could be about to get a measure of revenge by beating West Ham to the signing of a player David Moyes has been tracking for over a year.

West Ham almost signed Marseille and Croatian defender Duje Caleta-Car last summer (The Sun).

And Moyes has been heavily linked with him again since Fabian Balbuena was allowed to leave on a free transfer this summer.

West Ham have since seen star defender Angelo Ogbonna injured too with Moyes anxiously awaiting the results of a scan.

Bitter blow for Moyes and Hammers fans who had been excited by prospect of signing Croatia star

Many West Ham fans have been excited by claims from the likes of Foot Mercato that Moyes has reignited interest in Caleta-Car.

Foot Mercato claimed last month that West Ham were at the front of the queue with a bid ready to try and lure the 24-year-old from L’OM.

West Ham insider ExWHUemployee backed up those claims last month by revealing Caleta-Car and James Tarkowski were Moyes’s prime defensive targets.

But now West Ham’s bitter rivals Spurs have swooped in and look set to land Caleta-Car instead.

Second defender blow for West Ham in less than 24 hours

That’s according to a new report from Croatian outlet SportKlub which claims Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign the Hammers target for £20.5m.

According to the report new Spurs director of football Fabio Paratici has struck a deal to beat the Hammers to Caleta-Car.

The news will come as a bitter blow to Moyes and hot on the heels of the Hammers missing out on another defensive target, Joachim Andersen – who was also linked with Spurs.
