Some managers give soundbites telling fans what they want to hear, but not David Moyes at West Ham United.
And the brutally honest Scot was true to form after watching his impressive West Ham side batter Celtic 6-2 on Saturday.
West Ham fans are desperate to see the club make signings.
With the Premier League season less than three weeks away – and European football to contend with too – West Ham are yet to bring in a single player for the first team squad.
Hammers need three to four players to beef up squad
That’s despite the club needing a bare minimum three to four signings in key positions – especially up front.
Some West Ham fans have – until now – consoled themselves with the fact it has been a quiet transfer window across most of Europe.
With the Euros out of the way, rival clubs have now started to make moves.
But speaking on West Ham’s official website after the Celtic win, Moyes admitted ‘we’ve got nothing close’ to happening on the transfer front.
Honest Moyes delivers depressing transfer update and says West Ham need signings
And while he is delighted with the players he does have, he said West Ham need signings for increased competition.
“We need to get more competition (for places) that’s the big thing,” Moyes said on whufc.com.
“If we want to keep the standards up (we’ve got to have more competition for places).
“But I tell you what we’ve got a great group of lads – I’m really lucky because we’ve got a group of lads now who are right on it, foot to the metal all the time at the moment so hopefully we can keep it going.
‘We’ve got nothing really, no big update’
“Yea (I’m working around the clock to bring in signings), but the players that are here are important.
“We’ll find what we can do in the future (with transfers) but we’ve got nothing really, no big update on that at the moment.”
In other West Ham news, Celtic fans did something very classy to West Ham star during pre-season clash.
