‘Men against Bhoys’ Sutton highlights huge gulf in class as Hammers ‘teach Celtic a lesson’

But West Ham – who missed out on Champions League qualification by just one win last season – are evidence of the kind of quality the Hoops will be facing and then some should they make it.

Speaking after the game Sutton, a former Celtic hero and Premier League star, said West Ham taught his old club a lesson (Premier Sports).

“This isn’t on the manager, this is on the board this whole situation, what he has to work with,” Sutton said on Premier Sports.

“You know this isn’t on Dane Murray, a young centre half giving the ball away. He’s been put in a position where he’s up against a streetwise, top class, Premier League centre forward who gave him and (Stephen) Welsh a real lesson.

‘This wasn’t even West Ham’s best team, the gap is so big’

“I mean it’s a learning curve but he (Ange Postecoglou) hasn’t been given the tools… It was men against boys, it was so wide the gap.

“West Ham were in a different class and this wasn’t West Ham’s best team, they have four or five players coming back which are going to make them stronger. The gap is so big…

“Maybe this will be a good thing in the long term (but) how can you say it’s a good thing after you get embarrassed in your home park 6-2.”
