Journalists have claimed West Ham are set for initial talks with Leeds over two deals for Wilfried Gnonto and Ben Johnson.

West Ham are desperate for a new forward in the January transfer window and Leeds United are trying to bolster their defensive options.

And that may have out West Ham and Leeds on course to do some business this month it seems.

West Ham were heavily linked with Leeds ace Wilfried Gnonto in the summer window.

Interestingly it was claimed that Hammers boss David Moyes originally wanted to sign the 13-capped Italy international from FC Zurich before he joined Leeds in the summer of 2022.

Journalists: West Ham set for initial talks with Leeds over two deals

It has been reported this week that West Ham are eyeing a move for Gnonto, who has been limited to seven Championship appearances and one goal for Leeds so far this season.

Especially with Said Benrahma looking likely to be sold and injuries ruling out Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen.

West Ham have been busy trying to ship fringe players out to clear space in the squad and on the wage bill.

One player hotly tipped to leave this month is contract rebel Ben Johnson. Especially after he rejected West Ham’s latest offer of a new deal.

Well now journalists claim West Ham are set for initial talks with Leeds over two deals for Gnonto and Johnson.

Gnonto in and Johnson out?

And one of the reporters, Phil Hay, is the top source for Leeds United news.

“Leeds United are interested in a January loan deal for West Ham defender Ben Johnson,” Hay claims on The Athletic.

“The versatile defender has made 92 first-team appearances for West Ham but has started just one Premier League game this season.

“Johnson is comfortable in either full-back role and has also been utilised in midfield previously in his career.”

‘Enquiry in coming days’

Meanwhile reporter Dean Jones has told Sportslens West Ham want to see if Leeds have changed their stance on letting Gnonto go.

“Wilfried Gnonto pushed for a transfer away from Leeds United at the start of the season and in recent times, has struggled to make the Whites starting line-up…” Jones said.

“Fulham are among clubs that have also had an eye on Gnonto’s situation but West Ham are primed to make an enquiry in the coming days.

“The Hammers considered him last summer so they want to see if his situation has changed since then, when Leeds refused to cash in on their star asset.”
