West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee has delivered his verdict on new links to signing Manchester United outcast Phil Jones on a free transfer.

West Ham are in desperate need of at least one new centre-back this summer after the departure of Fabian Balbuena.

Moyes may need to bring in more than one, though, as he anxiously awaits the results of a scan on an injury suffered by star defender Angelo Ogbonna.

ExWHUemployee delivers verdict on new Jones link as report claims Man United outcast could be released

And the Scot could well take Jones on a free from former club Man United.

That’s according to ‘educated speculation’ from Hammers insider ExWHUemployee in the wake of a report from 90Min which claims Jones could be released on a free.

Speaking on The West Ham Way Patreon site, ExWHUemployee said a move for Jones will ‘surely to appeal to Moyes’.

“He is a big fan of the England international from his time managing Manchester United and has made precious enquiries to the player’s availability before, whilst managing us,” ExWHUemployee said on The West Ham Way Patreon site.

‘A major concern is his injury record’

“A major concern is his injury record and he hasn’t really featured for nearly two years now so this could be a factor that puts Moyes off. We shall see if Moyes reignites his interest in the coming weeks and I am merely speculating (educated) at this point.”

Ex’s ‘educated speculation’ comes as West Ham look set to miss out on two reported Moyes targets to London rivals Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.

West Ham have been linked with Lyon centre-back Joachim Andersen for the last six months and Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car for over a year.
