Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has lifted the lid on what West Ham target Aaron Wan-Bissaka is thinking after a change at Man United in last week.

Why do West Ham and Manchester United transfers always seem to turn into sagas?

While other clubs get around the table and get deals done for their targets, transfers involving West Ham and Man United appear to be long, drawn out affairs often played out in the press.

It seems the situation surrounding right-back Wan-Bissaka will be no different.

Signing a new right-back in the winter window is right near the top of David Moyes’ priority list.

Any doubts that West Ham desperately need a new defender on the right hand side will have been put to bed by the performances of both Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson this season.

Both have proved nowhere near the required standard for a modern full-back so far this season and for much of the second half of last term too. The failure to sign a right-back and a proper left-back upgrade in the summer is frankly inexcusable from the West Ham management and has costing the team dear this season.

Man United boss Erik ten Hag has also been linked with signing a new right-back.

It has been reported that West Ham have held talks with Manchester United over a deal to sign Wan-Bissaka this month.

The Red Devils signed the fullback from Crystal Palace for £50m in the summer of 2019 (BBC Sport).

West Ham boss Moyes actually tried to sign Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

And recent reports have suggested he will try again for Wan-Bissaka in January albeit with competition from Wolves.

Reporting for the Manchester Evening News, chief Man United writer Samuel Luckhurst confirmed West Ham’s interest in bringing the former Crystal Palace star back to London.

Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed a deal between West Ham and Man United for the right-back could be on the cards.

Ten Hag appeared to change his stance on Wan-Bissaka when he brought him back into the side after the World Cup break with Diogo Dalot unavailable.

But Sky Sports reporter Sheth has lifted the lid on what West Ham target Wan-Bissaka is thinking after a change at Man United in last week.

As soon as Dalot was available again he was straight back in the Man United starting XI for the wins over Everton and Charlton.

Sheth says Man United are still looking at “all options” when it comes to signing a new right-back. And he claims Wan-Bissaka may now be thinking he needs to get a move this month.

“I’m told they are looking and keeping an eye on all right-back options if the future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka is away from Old Trafford in this transfer window,” Sheth said on Sky Sports.

“Now it looked for all the money in the summer and at the beginning of this transfer window that maybe Wan-Bissaka would be moving on. But following the break for the World Cup when Diogo Dalot wasn’t fit, Ten Hag brought Wan-Bissaka back into the team.

“Now he wasn’t doing that when Dalot was suspended just before the break – he opted to play Tyrell Malacia at right-back against Fulham and Luke Shaw at left-back. This time he decided to bring in Wan-Bissaka at right-back.

“He played, and started, the first four games since the break. He impressed Erik ten Hag and so it almost turned into a win-win situation for Man United because they then had a very good option at right-back once Diogo Dalot was fit or they had a more attractive proposition for an interested club to come in for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

“But in the last game(s)… Diogo Dalot was fully fit and he, significantly, started. And if that continues throughout this month, Aaron Wan-Bissaka might think ‘I need to assess my options here’.”

West Ham must be ready, willing and able to make that deal happen if that is the case.
