West Ham United goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has seemingly made a huge U-turn regarding his playing time.

Lukasz Fabianski has been the number one goalkeeper at West Ham since 2018, but that all changed at the start of this season when Alphonse Areola was promoted by David Moyes into the Premier League starting role.

The 38-year-old has been a super reliable performer for the Hammers and his teammate Michail Antonio recently raved about the stopper, labelling him as ‘unreal’.

Fabianski hit the headlines earlier this season when he shared his dismay at the fact he had been demoted to the number two goalkeeper at the London Stadium.

Areola has kept his place in the Premier League side ever since then, despite Fab doubling down on his comments a couple of months ago, by suggesting that he wants to play in every single game that West Ham play.

That’s fair enough – it’s the kind of attitude that the fans want to see from the players.

However, it seems like the Polish goalkeeper has now performed a complete 180 about turn…

West Ham ace Lukasz Fabianski changes stance

The 38-year-old has been speaking to WHUFC.com ahead of our Europa League clash with TSC Backa Topola tonight.

And Fab admitted that he is now looking forward to playing every single cup game:

“It’s a good challenge for me personally to play in the cup games. I didn’t play in Europe in the last two years, so the role is a bit different and I’m looking forward to every single game. I try to do my best and play the best I can to help the team. Obviously it’s a very demanding schedule, but at the same time we actually work for it. We want to be the team competing in different competitions and we have the opportunity to compete in Europe at the same time we’ve progressed in the League Cup, so I think that speaks volumes about how we are progressing and developing as a team.”

Now, Fabianski recently signed a new deal with the Hammers – one that runs up until the end of the season.

He is clearly now our cup goalkeeper, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be getting much game time.

The stopper has all of our Europa League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup games still to come, and he already has five appearances to his name this season.

Lukasz Fabianski still has a key role to play for West Ham, and his new-found attitude is very encouraging to hear.
