David Moyes has made a truly baffling Craig Dawson claim regarding West Ham United’s weaknesses from set-pieces this season.

Craig Dawson was sold to Wolves in the January transfer window – a decision sanctioned by West Ham manager David Moyes.

The fact that the Hammers sold one of our key players to a relegation rival in January was utter madness in my opinion.

It was a decision layered in arrogance and ignorance to the true state of affairs at the London Stadium. However much Dawson wanted to leave, he was under contract with West Ham until the summer.

He clearly should have been made to see out his time with West Ham, and David Moyes’s latest comments make his exit seem all the more mind-boggling…

David Moyes makes truly baffling Craig Dawson claim

The Scot has actually spoken about Dawson a couple of times since he left the club, kind of proving in a way that he wishes he had kept him.

And Moyes’s latest soundbite on the 32-year-old centre-back will have the West Ham fans really scratching their heads…

The 59-year-old responded yesterday when asked by reporters why his team haven’t been as good from set-pieces this season, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“Maybe we don’t have Craig Dawson. We didn’t have him at the start of the season, then we lost him (to Wolves) in the January window.”

So if Moyes believed that Dawson was so important from a set-piece perspective, why on earth did he allow him to leave when we were bang in trouble at the time?

Sure, we would have lost him on a free transfer in the summer but Dawson’s exit could end up being the difference between survival and relegation for us.

For David Moyes to admit that West Ham are suffering with set-pieces because we don’t have Craig Dawson anymore is incredibly honest of him, but also quite stupid.

It was there Scot’s decision to sell the 32-year-old after all.
