Bayer Leverkusen’s CEO has spoken out on the future of manager Xabi Alonso and it’ll be music to West Ham’s ears on two fronts.
Although no decision has been made on the future of David Moyes by West Ham, the Scot is in the last year of his Hammers contract and speculation abounds it will not be renewed.
Technical director Tim Steidten has been a huge hit since joining West Ham in the summer. And he is already reportedly assessing replacements.
It was claimed by a source inside West Ham last month that Steidten’s appointment could see the German help West Ham replace Moyes with Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso in the summer.
West Ham have been heavily linked with Alonso since the German’s arrival at West Ham – as reported here on Hammers News.

Leverkusen CEO speaks out on Alonso future
We also reported on claims that West Ham will have to pay a £13m get out clause to bring the man Steidten appointed at Leverkusen to east London.
Many Hammers fans have been excited at the prospect of appointing a young, progressive, modern, attack-minded albeit somewhat inexperienced coach like Alonso.
Especially after his side played West Ham off the park in a thumping pre-season win. And Alonso’s undefeated side currently top the Bundesliga table with 10 wins from their opening 11 games, playing scintillating football in the process.
West Ham’s alleged Moyes succession plan had a big problem, though. It had been reported Alonso’s buy out clause was specifically designed for one of his three former clubs – Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Liverpool.
We have been reporting on Alonso’s situation recently on Hammers News. And West Ham have been handed a huge boost of late with all three of those giants being ruled out as destinations for Alonso in the summer.

Music to West Ham’s ears on two fronts
Real Madrid are in talks with Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi to succeed fellow Italian Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu.
Jurgen Klopp has a contract at Liverpool until 2026 and is currently leading an impressive rebuild at Anfield.
And reports linking Alonso with Bayern Munich are ‘very wide of the mark’ with the Germans fully intending to stick with Thomas Tuchel.
Now the Hammers have been handed even more encouragement that Steidten’s alleged Moyes succession plan could be attainable.
Bayer Leverkusen’s CEO has spoken out on Alonso’s future and it’ll be music to West Ham’s ears on two fronts.

‘We’re not going to force someone to stay’
Fernando Carro has not only denied there is a clause in Alonso’s contract.
But he also says he will be allowed to leave in the summer if he wants to, even if the Bundesliga leaders are desperate for him stay.
“At the end of the day, we’re not going to force someone to stay if he doesn’t want to stay,” Carro told talkSPORT.
“We want him to feel so happy and so good with us that he really only wants to stay and this is our objective.
“No nothing on paper (clauses) but sometimes agreements that are not on paper are agreements as well and we know that if he needs to do a move in the future we’ll be able to talk with each other. I hope we will not need to do this because he will stay and be happy in Leverkusen.”
