The 25-year-old made his debut with a 15 minute cameo appearance against Chelsea on Sunday, but he is still yet to start a game under Hammers boss David Moyes.

The Scot admitted on Sunday that the Mexico international isn’t quite ready physically.
And despite some calls from the West Ham fans for Alvarez to be thrown straight into the side, it seems as though Moyes was 100 per cent spot on…
West Ham ace Edson Alvarez makes a candid admission about his physical condition
The Mexican has just made the honest admission that he is not quite up to speed yet physically.
When speaking to EFE, Alvarez admitted that he needs more training sessions and match practice in order to be ready to start a game for the Hammers:

“I know I’m not in my best shape yet, I’ve only been training for a week, but you’re picking up all that with training and the matches. If I prepare very well, I know I can fight for a position. This league for me is the most important in the world. Every weekend you try to see the Premier teams. Being here is very motivating. I respect what he (Rice) is as a player. I’ve seen him, everyone knows him, but I’m here to make my own story, to contribute what I can contribute.”
Next up for the Hammers is a trip to the south coast to take on our arch nemesis Brighton on Saturday evening.
I reckon that Alvarez could be in line to start the match, after his superb cameo performance against Chelsea.
However, that would mean that Tomas Soucek has to come out of the side, and we all know how highly Moyes rates the Czech Republic international.
Sooner or later though, Edson Alvarez will come into the West Ham starting XI, and Moyes will have to drop someone to make way for him. It’s actually a very nice dilemma to have for the Scot.
