Declan Rice has one word to describe the Lucas Paqueta signing as West Ham United confirm exciting club record deal.

No you were not dreaming Hammers fans, the club really did complete the signing of Paqueta last night.

It is now official and West Ham have pulled off one of the most ambitious transfers for years with the arrival of Brazil international Paqueta from Lyon on a five-year deal – with the option for a further year.

After a roller coaster few days, West Ham confirmed the 25-year-old on Bank Holiday Monday evening.

Paqueta impressed David Moyes and West Ham’s players after facing the Hammers with Lyon in last season’s Europa League quarter-final.

West Ham won that particular battle 4-1 on aggregate.

And now they have returned to take one of the kings of Lyon and lure him to the London Stadium.

In his first words on signing for the club, Paqueta says he is very happy to be part of West Ham.

It seems his new captain is delighted too judging by his reaction on social media.

Because Declan Rice has one word to describe the Paqueta signing as West Ham confirm the exciting club record deal.

When the Hammers took to social media to welcome their new boy from Brazil, Rice responded with a single word: “Massive.”

Massive indeed.

Paqueta has been the star player of Brazil’s World Cup qualification campaign.

He is a big favourite in his homeland, as he was in France where he was nominated for the Ligue 1 player of the year award.

West Ham boss Moyes recently said he knew he needed to sign more players like Dimitri Payet to continue the rapid progress the Hammers have made over the last two and a half years.

And now the Scot has his man – and then some.

Paqueta can play in a variety of positions in midfield and attack.

South American football oracle Tim Vickery said this week that West Ham should be very excited about Paqueta, describing him as a ‘proper old school Hammers player’ who is worthy of playing for the club of Sir Trevor Brooking.

And a added bonus, West Ham now have the brilliantly named midfield Paqueta Rice.
