David Moyes had West Ham scout Mick Brown watch striker target Ben Brereton Diaz one last time before a big transfer decision this week.

West Ham look set to make it eight signings for the summer and £175m spent when they complete the exciting signing of Brazil star Lucas Paqueta imminently.

But he may not be the only player with a South American passport arriving at West Ham before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

West Ham have long been linked with Blackburn and Chile striker Brereton Diaz.

The Hammers and a host of Premier League clubs have reportedly been mulling a move for the forward for some time now.

Brereton Diaz scored 22 goals and laid on three assists in 34 appearances for Blackburn last season.

And the reported West Ham target already has three goal involvements in six games this term.

Last week journalist Alan Nixon claimed Moyes is still eyeing Rovers forward Brereton Diaz.

Writing on his Patreon, the reporter said Everton, Leeds, Sevilla and Nice are all rivalling West Ham for BBD before the window closes.

Now Nixon has issued an intriguing update.

Moyes had West Ham scout Brown watch striker target Brereton Diaz one last time before his big transfer decision this week.

Nixon announced on his Patreon that West Ham were one of several Premier League clubs who had a scout in the director’s guest lounge for Blackburn’s 1-0 defeat at home to Stoke.

Nixon posted a picture of the guest list showing Moyes had sent Hammers scout Brown along to watch BBD one last time before making his mind up on whether to try and sign the striker in the next 72 hours.

Some West Ham fans might be wondering where Brereton Diaz would fit in to their new look squad.

It is easy to see why given Moyes has new £35m striker Gianluca Scamacca, Michail Antonio, Maxwel Cornet, Jarrod Bowen and even Paqueta who can all operate up front.

But of those only Scamacca is a true striker in the purest sense of the word.

So perhaps bringing Brereton Diaz in as competition and back-up is not the worst idea in the world ahead of what could be a 60-game season.
