West Ham United star Craig Dawson is surely on his way to Aston Villa if new transfer reports doing the rounds are true.

There have been rumours all pre-season that Dawson may want to move further north for family reasons (Claret and Hugh).

The defender has been out with a quad injury so far this campaign.

West Ham lost £30m new centre-back signing Nayef Aguerd to a three-month injury in pre-season.

In the meantime West Ham have signed defender Thilo Kehrer from PSG.

Aston Villa have also lost their own £30m summer centre-back signing Diego Carlos to a long-term injury.

And reports have claimed Villa want to solve their own defensive injury problems by signing Dawson from West Ham.

The Sun claim Dawson could be tempted to join Villa due to guarantees of more regular first-team action given West Ham have Kurt Zouma, Kehrer, the returning Angelo Ogbonna and – when he returns – Aguerd too.

Ironically Villa’s need for someone like Dawson has been highlighted further by West Ham’s 1-0 win over Steven Gerrard’s side on Sunday.

And West Ham star Dawson is surely on his way to Aston Villa if new transfer reports are true.

Because West Ham continue to be linked with moves for a number of centre-backs before the window closes.

Turkish newspaper Sabah (28 August, page 15) is reporting that West Ham have bid £13.5m for longstanding David Moyes target Attila Szalai.

This weekend West Ham are also being linked with a move to sign talented Sao Paulo defender Luizao.

That’s according to a report from Brazilian outlet IG who claim that the 20-year-old is firmly on the Hammers’ radar this summer.

That would suggest Moyes very much feels he wants another centre-back.

Perhaps because he has given Dawson assurances he can leave – against the backdrop of the talk the defender wants to go further north for family reasons?

So that would be good news for Aston Villa if they do want to sign the Hammers cult hero.
