If David Moyes gives £64k-a-week ace only his second start of the season, West Ham will blow Gent away

David Moyes absolutely must start Maxwel Cornet for the West Ham vs Gent Europa Conference League clash tonight.

West Ham welcome Gent to the London Stadium for the second-leg of our quarter-final Europa Conference League tie, and I believe that Maxwel Cornet must be included by David Moyes in the starting XI.

The Hammers need to win by any margin tonight in order to progress through to the semi-finals of the competition.

Or we can draw and win in extra-time or on penalties. Hopefully it won’t get that far though. West Ham have more than enough quality to brush Gent aside with ease.

And I believe our best chance of beating the Belgian outfit is for Moyes to start Cornet…

Maxwel Cornet must start for West Ham vs Gent

The 26-year-old has made only one start for the Hammers all season – way back in October in the Premier League against Wolves.

Cornet suffered a serious calf injury during that match, and subsequently spent five months on the sidelines.

The Ivory Coast international, who earns £64k-a-week according to Salary Sport, recently returned to first-team training, but has only been given a handful of minutes over the past month.

Tonight will be the ideal time to throw Cornet in from the start though, if Moyes really wants to take the game to the visitors.

During the first-leg out in Belgian, we had absolutely zero pace in the side and posed no threat whatsoever in behind their backline.

Pace is something that the former Burnley ace possesses in abundance. This is something that he alluded to earlier this week, when speaking to the club’s official website.

The West Ham ace is extremely direct when running with the ball, and his playing style will give the Gent defenders something completely different to think about.

Getting Cornet back to full fitness at this stage of the season will be absolutely crucial for the Hammers. And if Moyes plays him from the start at the London Stadium tonight, he could have a big say in our hopes of progressing through to the final four of the Europa Conference League.
