West Ham United apparently could be about to make a really surprising call on centre-back Angelo Ogbonna.

Angelo Ogbonna joined West Ham from Italian giants Juventus in the summer of 2015 for around £8.5 million (talkSPORT).

The 35-year-old Hammers defender has been nowhere near his best this season, and has only played 111 Premier League minutes (Transfermarkt).

He made an absolute howler during our Europa League clash with Backa Topola last month, and apologised to the fans after the game on Twitter.

The experienced Italian is currently the fourth-choice centre-back under David Moyes, maybe even fifth if you include Thilo Kehrer.

And it seems as though he could be on his way out of the London Stadium in January…

West Ham United could be about to make a shock Angelo Ogbonna decision

Oggy signed a new one-year contract extension before the start of this season, and despite his lack of minutes on the pitch, he still plays a vital role at the club with his leadership skills and experience.

Claret and Hugh claim that West Ham could try to sell centre-back Angelo Ogbonna in the January transfer window.

He is out of contract at the London Stadium in the summer, so if we were to sell him this winter, we’d still get a fee for him – albeit a nominal one.

Ogbonna has made 236 appearances for West Ham since joining the club, with 192 of those coming in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

The Italian has firmly established himself as a real fan favourite in East London since joining the Hammers from Juve, and it would be really sad to see him go.

In fact, I would like Moyes to keep Angelo Ogbonna at West Ham in some kind of coaching role. His experience would be invaluable and his laid-back demeanour makes him ideally suited to helping the talented youngsters that we have coming through the ranks.

It seems as though the Hammers want to sell the Italian though. I just can’t see anyone paying a fee for him in January when he’ll be available on a free transfer just five months later. Hopefully the 35-year-old remains at the London Stadium beyond the end of the season in some kind of coaching capacity.
