West Ham United are battling the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona to sign a left-back from one of our London rivals in the January transfer window.

Tutto Juve claim that West Ham are showing interest in bringing in a left-back to compete with Emerson Palmieri this winter.

Hammers boss David Moyes made a whole host of top-class signings in the summer transfer window, but we’re still short of a top-class left-back to compete with and provide cover for Emerson.

That could all change now though, with Chelsea ace Ian Maatsen in our sights. West Ham were linked with a move to sign the 21-year-old Blues defender in the summer, but he remained at Stamford Bridge in the end.

And now it seems like the Hammers are set to go back in for him…

West Ham eyeing new left-back in January

Maatsen is on the Hammers’ radar according to Tutto Juve, but we could face competition from Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona for his signature.

I would absolutely love the young Chelsea ace to move to the London Stadium – he would be a terrific addition to Moyes’s ranks.

The youngster bagged four goals and six assists in 39 Championship outings for Burnley last season, whilst on loan at Turf Moor (Who Scored).

He has impressed whilst playing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season as well.

Described as an ‘absolutely rapid’ left-back by Talk Chelsea, Maatsen seems to be exactly the kind of player we need at West Ham.

The Dutch youngster has bags of energy and pace in abundance, is an incredibly powerful runner and a top-class defender. At just 21, he has the potential to go on and become a truly top-class left-back, or wing-back.

It’s thought that he could be available for just £20 million as well – an absolute steal in the current market.

And if West Ham manage to sign the Chelsea left-back this winter, we really will be in great shape going forward.
