West Ham United will apparently be on the lookout for one new signing in particular in the January transfer window.

David Moyes wants to bring a specific new signing to West Ham in January according to football journalist Dean Jones, via Give Me Sport.

The Hammers boss made a series of really impressive signings in the summer, with Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Mohammed Kudus all arriving at the London Stadium after Declan Rice’s exit.

Moyes is on the verge of building our best squad for decades. However, it could be argued that we’re weak in one specific area.

And the West Ham manager seems to be intent on improving that this winter…

West Ham have specific January signing in mind

Dean Jones reckons that the addition of a new number nine is at the very top of Moyes’s wish-list.

The football journalist told Give Me Sport:

“We know that West Ham are going to start looking towards signing a No.9 in the January market. We know that they’re looking for somebody to alternate with Antonio a bit.”

Michail Antonio has been a fine servant for the Hammers over the last eight years, but it’s clear to see that Moyes needs to make an upgrade on him now.

If the Hammers are to reach the next level, Moeys needs to sign a striker who puts in the same kind of work as Antonio, but someone who is a better finisher than the 33-year-old.

That obviously won’t be easy to find, or cheap for that matter. With West Ham on the hunt for a new striker signing in January, I believe that one of either Serhou Guirassy or Taiwo Awoniyi will be the perfect option to replace Antonio.

They are both tall, powerful and hard-working front-men who can finish as well. I believe that we’ll have more chance of signing Guirassy in January – Nottingham Forest won’t want to sell to a Premier League rival after all.

Once Moyes gets the addition of a top-class striker over the line – someone who suits his system – then I think we’ll be ready to jump up to another level entirely.
