West Ham United attacker Maxwel Cornet is a reported transfer target for Everton this summer.

According to the Daily Mail (print edition August 30th, page 64), West Ham could raise funds for a move to sign Hugo Ekitike by selling Maxwel Cornet to Everton in the summer transfer window.

Cornet, 26, has really struggled with injuries and form since joining the Hammers, but he insisted a few months back that he still has so much to offer the club.

David Moyes clearly isn’t a big fan of the Ivorian winger, and it would be no surprise to see the Scot sell him this summer, in order to fund a move for Ekitike.

West Ham are said to be in talks with the 21-year-old Frenchman, although it remains to be seen whether we can afford the £34 million fee that PSG are allegedly demanding.

There could be a simple solution to that potential problem for the Hammers though…

According to the Mail, Everton are keen to sign the former Burnley man from the Hammers.

West Ham owners allegedly want to recoup the £17.5 million that they paid for the 26-year-old.

And if they manage to do that, whilst signing Ekitike, it would be a sensational piece of business from the club.

Cornet is clearly a decent player – we saw that from his time with Burnley and Lyon.

However, he just hasn’t done anything of note at the London Stadium. Sometimes things just don’t work out for players at certain clubs, and he probably needs a fresh start somewhere in order to salvage his flagging career.

If West Ham sell Maxwel Cornet and sign Hugo Ekitike, we’ll be in a much stronger position than the one we’re currently in, there’s no doubt about that.
