“James has been helping us a lot, with his set-pieces and his all-round game. He’s a quality player and we’re happy with him. He played a big role today and I’m sure he will throughout the season. He’s showed in training, and in both games, that he is a quality player. He has so much intelligence with the ball.”

Ward-Prowse already looks like he will go down as one of the best signings of the summer in the Premier League.

He possesses incredible technical ability, and not just from set-pieces – he is just a very good all-round footballer.

The 28-year-old is a real leader and a superb organiser as well. It really is great to have him on board at the London Stadium.

And Emerson Palmieri is clearly thinking the same thing about his new West Ham teammate.
