Former West Ham United duo Shaka Hislop and Stewart Robson have differing opinions on reports claiming that Crysencio Summerville could be on his way to Manchester United after the 2026 World Cup.

Hammers News reported on Saturday that Michael Carrick’s Man United are at the front of the queue to take Mateus Fernandes to Old Trafford.

But, as talks continue with the Portugal playmaker, what are the chances of Crysencio Summerville reuniting with a West Ham United teammate in the north west?

DISCUSS: How much would you sell Crysencio Summerville for this summer? 💰

Summerville's value is only going one way after his World Cup heroics 📈

Well, although we are reluctant to put a percentage on things just yet, it is certainly not nil.

The uber-reliable David Ornstein claims that Man United have enquired about the £50 million-rated Summerville.

A transfer which makes a lot more sense to Shaka Hislop than it does to Stewart Robson.

Speaking on ESPN UK, a goalkeeper who made over a century of Premier League appearances for the Hammers feels that Summerville’s upward trajectory matches that of a Red Devils side who went from 15th to third in the space of twelve months.

“I think Summerville started a little bit slowly for West Ham and then got better as the season went on,” Hislop says of a winger who scored seven of his eight Hammers goals after New Year’s Day.

“That’s where the [£50m] valuation comes from. At 24, you can’t really call him a youngster, but he’s certainly trending well for Manchester United. If they do get him and he continues to progress, he will prove to be a very good signing indeed.

“I quite like this one.”

For Robson, West Ham’s Player of the Year in 1988, the big question is how he ranks alongside Man United’s current options out wide.

How would you feel about selling Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham? 👀

It would feel so wrong seeing him in a Spurs shirt 😬

Stewart Robson is less convinced about Old Trafford switch

While Summerville scored an Arjen Robben-esque stunner for the Netherlands this week – showing he can play on the right as well as the left – competition would arise in the shape of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Patrick Dorgu and Amad Diallo.

Amad, like Summerville, scored on the World stage when netting a late winner for the Ivory Coast against Ecuador.

“He had some good moments. He was one of their best players [last season],” Robson says of Summerville. “He’s got lots of pace, and he can score a goal. We saw him score a goal at the World Cup for the Dutch.

“Is he worth £50m? Will he make Manchester United a top team? I’m not so sure.

“I like Diallo. I think he’s a good player. When he plays, he changes the team on occasions. Is Summerville better than him? I wouldn’t say so at the moment.”
