West Ham will have another chance to sign Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez in January according to a report from CalcioNapoli24.

Hammers boss David Moyes was linked with a move to sign the Uruguay international in the summer (La Repubblica, ExWHUemployee, Centotrentuno and La Nuova Sardegna).

West Ham ended up looking elsewhere though, choosing to sign Alex Kral on loan from Spartak Moscow with an option to buy.

Moyes also brought Nikola Vlasic, Kurt Zouma and Alphonse Areola to the London Stadium.

Further additions are clearly needed if West Ham are to maintain our place inside the top four between now and the end of the season, however.

And it seems as though the Hammers could have a second bite at the cherry for one of Moyes’s key summer transfer targets.

West Ham have another chance to sign Cagliari ace Nahitan Nandez in January

CalcioNapoli24 reckon that Cagliari are ready to sell the 25-year-old midfielder next month. They may even be opening to loaning him out but only if an obligation to buy the South American is included in the deal.

We think that Nandez would be a very useful addition for West Ham.

Soccer Souls describe the tenacious midfielder as ‘outstanding’.

The 25-year-old averaged 1.8 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.3 dribbles and 1.5 clearances in 32 Serie A appearances last season. He made 30.9 passes per game on average during those outings and recorded a completion rate of 77.7% (Who Scored).

The Uruguay International has made 15 league appearances this term and has played in a variety of positions in midfield. He has improved in only one of the above statistical categories, so it could be argued that the lack of continuity has not helped him.

His quality is undeniable though.

He could be available for as little as £21 million (Corriere dello Sport, Print edition, May 15th, page 19). That would actually represent great value for West Ham.

Nandez is a tenacious tackler, has a real engine and his all-round playing style is quintessentially South American.

The question is, do West Ham really need to sign another central midfielder on January?

If truth be told, Moyes should be prioritising the additions of a top-class striker and a quality centre-back.
