West Ham United are lining up a surprise move to bring an ex Tottenham attacker back to the Premier League in the January transfer window.

The upcoming January transfer window will be an absolutely vital one for under-fire West Ham manager David Moyes.

The Hammers boss may not even have been in charge at the London Stadium now, had his team not recorded back-to-back wins against Olympiacos and Nottingham Forest respectively just before the international break.

The 60-year-old is under intense pressure, and claims a couple of weeks ago suggested that he was dangerously close to losing his job.

However, Moyes seems to have steadied the ship now, and the general consensus is that he’ll be given until the end of the season before being amicably moved on.

So, if the former Manchester United, Everton and Real Sociedad manager is here for the foreseeable future, he absolutely must make some top-class signings in the winter, if he is going to have any chance of winning another trophy this season.

One area where we definitely need more competition is out on the right wing, with someone needed to come in and really push Jarrod Bowen.

We have Mohammed Kudus of course, but he has made it very clear that his best position is in the number 10 role.

And it seems as though Moyes has someone in particular in mind to come in and do the job…

West Ham eye exciting January transfer window swoop

Sporting Lisbon attacker Marcus Edwards is allegedly on the Hammers’ radar ahead of the January window, according to 90 Min journalist Graeme Bailey.

He told the Talking Transfers podcast how West Ham have scouted the 24-year-old right winger on numerous occasions – most recently just last weekend.

It’s not the first time we’ve been linked with a move to sign Edwards, Moyes apparently wanted to bring him to the London Stadium way back in January 2021.

Edwards left Spurs on a free transfer in the summer of 2019 and joined Vitória Guimarães, where he bagged 20 goals and 14 assists in 96 games (Transfermarkt).

He then went on to join Sporting in January 2022, and he’s been hugely impressive for the Portuguese giants.

The 24-year-old Enfield-born winger has 18 goals and 21 assists to his name in 82 games for Sporting (Transfermarkt).

Marcus Edwards is a left-footed right winger who has pace to burn and is brilliant technically. He has an eye for goal and regularly contributes with assists as well.

He would be a brilliant signing for West Ham in the January transfer window. However, there is one very big problem – his £52 million release clause (TNT).

I can’t see the Hammers paying anything like that kind of money for Edwards, so a compromise will have to be reached if he is to move back to London from Portugal this winter.
