According to a report from O Jogo (Print edition, January 5th, page 19), West Ham United are set to make an £18 million bid for Vitoria Guimaraes winger Marcus Edwards.

O Jogo suggests that there is a ‘reasonable’ chance that this transfer will go through.

West Ham were first linked with a move to sign the former Tottenham ace at the start of last month (TEAMtalk).

It does seem strange that David Moyes would be thinking of adding yet another winger to his ranks at the London Stadium this month.

The Scot should really be prioritising moves for a left wing-back, a centre-forward and a central midfielder.

West Ham are contemplating selling Andriy Yarmolenko (ExWHUemployee) and Felipe Anderson (The Guardian), however.

If we do manage to move those two players on, signing Marcus Edwards wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.

The 22-year-old Enfield-born winger has been a real hit in Portugal. He has 10 goals and 11 assists to his name in 50 games for (Transfermarkt).

West Ham a good fit for Marcus Edwards?

The former Spurs ace has pace in abundance and he plays with a direct style that would suit West Ham. He is also technically gifted.

The 22-year-old is left-footed so would fill the void left behind if we do indeed decide to sell Yarmolenko.

£18 million seems like a reasonable price for Marcus Edwards. Whether the West Ham board will be prepared to back David Moyes with those kind of funds, however, remains to be seen.
