West Ham manager David Moyes is insistent on signing Senegalese striker Boulaye Dia in the January transfer window.

That’s according to a report from Cronache Salerno who claim that the Hammers are not giving up on their pursuit of the on loan Salernitana hitman.

Recent reports suggested that West Ham have already submitted a £17 million offer for the striker.

The Hammers may well have our work cut-out in the race for the 26-year-old’s signature though.

Salernitana chief suggested that Dia wants to remains in Italy beyond the end of this season.

Moyes is a persistent man though, and the Senegal international is someone who he really wants…

Cronache Salerno reckon that the Hammers are not giving up on bringing Boulaye Dia to the London Stadium, either in January or the summer.

However, I’m not sure West Ham should be going all out for the Senegalese forward.

Dia, 26, joined Villarreal from Reims in the summer of 2021 for around €12 million (£10 million) having been heavily tracked by the Hammers.

The 19-capped Senegal striker bagged just seven goals and five assists in 35 games for the Spanish side last term though (Transfermarkt).

He left Villarreal to join Italian side Salernitana on a season-long loan in the summer, and has since racked up six goals and two assists in 14 Serie A games (Transfermarkt).

Dia is powerful, has explosive pace and is a real menace for opposing defenders.

The Senegalese forward has been far from prolific recently, and he definitely didn’t set the World Cup alight out in Qatar, despite scoring a goal for his country.

In all honesty, I haven’t been overly impressed any time that I have seen Dia play. It could be argued that he is actually nowhere near the levels required to be playing Premier League football.

If West Ham boss David Moyes is insistent on signing the 26-year-old striker though, then I will obviously back his decision.
