West Ham United reportedly want to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili as a long-term Lukasz Fabianski replacement and it’s bad news for Alphonse Areola.
According to a report from AS, West Ham are lining up a move to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili as Lukasz Fabianski winds down his playing days, and Alphonse Areola must be wondering what on earth is going on.

As a result of Valencia’s ongoing financial issues and their uncertain La Liga status, the Spanish side are allegedly looking to sell some players this summer.

And the 22-year-old Georgia international is one of their prized assets who could pull in a big transfer fee.
The Hammers are said to be one of the clubs monitoring Giorgi Mamardashvili ahead of the summer transfer window…
West Ham eyeing Giorgi Mamardashvili swoop
AS reckon that the 22-year-old is on the Hammers’ radar ahead of the summer.
The Georgian has a release clause included in his deal with Valencia thought to be worth around €100 million (£88 million), according to Eurosport.
West Ham obviously won’t be spending that kind of money on a goalkeeper, so Valencia must be willing to sell him on the cheap what with their financial problems.
Seriously though, and if this is true, what on earth will Areola be thinking?
Mamardashvili is a very good goalkeeper. He has conceded 58 goals in 52 games for Valencia and has kept 16 clean sheets in the process (Transfermarkt).

Not bad for a goalkeeper playing for a team currently sitting just outside the relegation zone in La Liga eh!
Standing at 6ft 6in tall, the Valencia ace cuts an imposing figure. He’s a great shot-stopper and commands his penalty area with authority – as you would expect for someone so tall.
However, I firmly believe that Alphonse Areola should be our number one, and not just from next season onwards – Moyes needs to put him in the Premier League starting XI now.
West Ham signing Giorgi Mamardashvili would be a big statement and he would obviously be a huge upgrade on Fabianski. However, we don’t need him with Areola at the club in my opinion.
