Jamie Redknapp absolutely ripped into Thilo Kehrer and Kurt Zouma after their performances for West Ham against Newcastle.
West Ham began the game well against Newcastle at the London Stadium tonight, but normal service quickly resumed with goals from Callum Wilson and Joelinton.

It was Joelinton’s goal that was particularly annoying from a Hammers perspective, with Thilo Kehrer and Kurt Zouma parting like the Red Sea to allow him through on goal. Jamie Redknapp absolutely battered the West Ham duo, and rightly so.

It was yet another example of the comical defending that has completely undermined our season so far. David Moyes would have been absolutely fuming with the French and German defenders.
Sometimes you just can’t legislate for things like that, and it cost us dearly yet again…
Jamie Redknapp hammers Thilo Kehrer and Kurt Zouma
The Sky Sports pundit was discussing our shambolic defending during the first half against the Toon.
And Redknapp highlighted how Kehrer and Zouma had to do so much better for Newcastle’s second goal (Wednesday April 5th, 8:57pm):

“If you look at the defenders there, they’ve got to communicate. Kehrer doesn’t see him, he should have pout his arm on him to stop him running. Zouma doesn’t see him, doesn’t open up his body. A straight ball should never get through like that. That is such rank and defending from West Ham’s point of view.”
Little did we know that things were about to get a whole lot worse after the break!
More shambolic play from Nayef Aguerd led to Newcastle’s third goal of the night but it was the poor early defending from Kehrer and Zouma that set the tone.
The Hammers really do have so much work to do if we are to avoid relegation this season. Cutting out the really poor defending will be a good place to start.
And as Jamie Redknapp said, Thilo Kehrer and Kurt Zouma were the chief culprits against Newcastle tonight.
