West Ham United are showing a concrete interest in signing New York City FC striker Valentin Castellanos this summer.

According to highly respected Argentinian journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, who claims that West Ham are battling Sevilla for the signing of Valentin Castellanos, also known as Taty, in the summer transfer window.

The East London outfit were actually linked with a move to sign the 24-year-old forward last summer, but he remained with the MLS side in the end.

Hammers boss David Moyes will be keen to bolster his centre-forward ranks at the London Stadium this summer, with Gianluca Scamacca and Danny Ings having failed to impress, and Michail Antonio being linked with an exit.

It seems as though Moyes could go shopping in the MLS to address the deficiencies of his centre-forward department…

West Ham have firm interest in signing ‘unbelievable’ Argentinian striker Valentin Castellanos

Cesar Luis Merlo reckons that the 24-year-old New York City FC hitman could be set for a move to the Premier League this summer.

That’s if the Hammers manage to beat Sevilla to his signature:

Castellanos is a top-class striker, and has racked up an impressive 59 goals and 24 assists in 134 games for the MLS side (Transfermarkt).

The South American has now proven that he can succeed in one of Europe’s top five leagues as well, by bagging 14 goals in 37 games during a loan spell with La Liga side Girona this season (Transfermarkt).

Former NYCFC manager Ronny Deila recently described Castellanos as an ‘unbelievable’ striker (90min).

He is technically gifted, is absolutely rapid and is obviously a very good finisher. He’s strong in the air as well and can play anywhere along the front-line.

It is claimed that West Ham can sign Valentin Castellanos for just €15 million (£12.8 million) this summer. And for that price, I think Moyes bringing him to the London Stadium is an absolute no-brainer.
