West Ham will have to pay a massive fee to sign Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse this summer.

According to 90min, Southampton will be prepared to sell James Ward-Prowse to West Ham for around £50 million at the end of the season.

Hammers boss David Moyes was linked heavily with a move to sign the 28-year-old Saints ace in the summer but he ended up bringing Lucas Paqueta to the London Stadium instead.

Ward-Prowse has been brilliant for Southampton once again this season, with nine goals and three assists to his name in 38 games (Transfermarkt).

And Moyes has his eye on the the 11-capped England international once again it seems…

West Ham will have to pay a big fee for James Ward-Prowse

It will take £50 million for the Hammers to prise the 28-year-old away from St Mary’s this summer according to a report from 90min.

That would be just £1 million shy of West Ham’s club record signing – the £51 million that we paid to prise Lucas Paqueta away from Lyon.

Now, that sounds like an awful lot of money but in today’s market, it really isn’t, and the Southampton star would be more than worth that kind of fee in my book.

Ward-Prowse, 28, is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, and has been described as a ‘brilliant’ player by The Athletic.

He is a superb player and is arguably the very best in world football when it comes to taking free-kicks and corners.

Ward-Prowse is technically brilliant and would be the ideal player to slot in alongside Paqueta next season, if Declan Rice leaves as he is expected to do.

One big problem for West Ham is that Tottenham star Harry Kane allegedly wants the 28-year-old to join the North London outfit this summer.

I’m just hoping that we will be able to beat Spurs to the punch.

James Ward-Prowse is an exceptional footballer and he would be a superb addition for West Ham this summer.
