'West Ham are going for it': Sky Sports reporter claims David Moyes signing James Ward-Prowse is possible

West Ham United allegedly still have a chance of signing James Ward-Prowse from Southampton, albeit a slim one.

That’s according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth who claims that the 27-year-old Southampton midfielder is wanted by the Hammers but his price-tag may prove to be too lofty for the East London outfit.

Claret & Hugh reckon that the Saints will demand at least £70 million for Ward-Prowse this summer. That’s fair enough, it’s their prerogative. The 11-capped England international is under contract at St Mary’s for another four years.

That’s an awful lot of money but we believe that JWP would be a truly exceptional addition for West Ham.

Whether we can afford to meet his valuation is another matter entirely though. It seems as though the powers that be at the London Stadium are well aware of how difficult this one will be to get over the line.

There is still a chance that the Hammers can sign the Southampton star this summer though…

West Ham still in for James Ward-Prowse

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has highlighted how it will be very difficult for David Moyes to bring the Southampton skipper to the London Stadium this summer:

“Central midfield, they do want to sign a player in that position and there is long-standing interest in Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse. West Ham are aware of how difficult this will be to get done. Let’s see if they continue talks, you can never say never. West Ham look like they will be going for it this summer.”

In our view, JWP would be superb for West Ham.

The 11-capped England international is a sensational footballer and has been dubbed as the best set-piece taker in world football by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Ward-Prowse enjoyed his best season ever for Southampton last term, bagging 11 goals and eight assists in 42 games (Transfermarkt).

The central midfielder possesses exceptional technique, is a magnificent passer of the football and has a very impressive engine.

The 27-year-old is truly incredible from dead-ball situations as well. His free-kick and corner taking technique has been described as ‘unreal’ (Give Me Sport).

Considering how much emphasis David Moyes places on set-pieces, it’s easy to see why signing Ward-Prowse would be very high up on the Scot’s priority list.

We just think that West Ham will find it too difficult to sign Ward-Prowse this summer. I hope I’m wrong, I really do. But what we don’t want is a long, protracted pursuit of the 27-year-old this summer. If West Ham can’t do a deal for him, then move on quickly and target someone else.
