West Ham will have to fork out some serious cash if we are to sign Southampton ace James Ward-Prowse this summer.
That’s according to high-level club insiders Claret and Hugh who claim that David Moyes will have to splash out £70 million for the 27-year-old Saints star – more than double what we are allegedly ready to pay for Nayef Aguerd.
Hammers boss Moyes desperately needs to bolster his central midfield ranks at the London Stadium before the start of next season.
Mark Noble has now retired whilst Alex Kral will not be at the club next season.
Conor Coventry has returned to the club following a loan spell away with MK Dons but the jury is still out as to whether he is actually good enough to be playing regular Premier League football.
The 27-year-old would be an exceptional addition for the Hammers. It seems as though Moyes will really have his work cut-out if he is to bring him to the London Stadium though…
James Ward-Prowse hammer blow for West Ham
Claret and Hugh reckon that the Southampton ace is a key transfer target for Moyes in the summer transfer window.
There is a huge problem though…the Saints are allegedly demanding around £70 million for the 11-capped England international.
That would be a serious outlay for West Ham and more than double the £30 million we are reportedly set to pay Rennes for Nayef Aguerd.
In my opinion, there is no way the Hammers will pay anything like £70 million for Ward-Prowse and that’s a real shame.
Easy to see why Moyes wants JWP
The Southampton star would be a superb addition for the East London outfit.
Who knows…perhaps some common ground can be found between the Hammers and the Saints.
The 11-capped England international is a sensational footballer and has been dubbed as the best set-piece taker in world football by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
Ward-Prowse enjoyed his best season ever for Southampton last term, bagging 11 goals and eight assists in 42 games (Transfermarkt).
The central midfielder possesses exceptional technique, is a magnificent passer of the football and has a very impressive engine.
The 27-year-old is truly incredible from dead-ball situations as well. His free-kick and corner taking technique has been described as ‘unreal’ (Give Me Sport).
Considering how much emphasis David Moyes places on set-pieces, it’s easy to see why signing Ward-Prowse would be very high up on the Scot’s priority list.
It seems as though West Ham will have to really push the boat out if we are to sign Ward-Prowse this summer though.
And unfortunately, we think his alleged £70 million price-tag makes this one a total no-go for the Hammers.
