There has been a lucky escape for West Ham as Everton close on sealing a transfer deal for a £30m outcast wanted by David Moyes.

West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for Everton outcast Michael Keane since the summer window.

An exclusive from The Daily Star during the last window claimed Hammers boss Moyes is a big admirer of the 29-year-old.

And journalist Paul Brown recently told GIVEMESPORT that he thinks West Ham will get the Everton man this month.

With West Ham fan favourite Craig Dawson set for a £3.3m move to Wolves, it is clear Moyes is going to need a new defender.

Especially given the injury issues involving Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd, the fact 34-year-old Angelo Ogbonna is likely in his last season and Thilo Kehrer has been woeful since arriving from PSG.

That has led to renewed speculation that the Hammers had enquired about signing Keane from Saturday’s opponents Everton this month.

Everton paid Burnley £30m for Keane back in 2017 (BBC Sport). Now they are struggling to get him off their books.

Initially Keane impressed at Goodison Park and became an England squad regular for a spell. In fact, in 2020 his form was rewarded with a new Everton contract until 2025.

Since then, though, the alleged West Ham target’s Everton and England career has nose-dived. He has been ridiculously error prone for the Toffees over the last couple of seasons and has barely featured this term.

Moyes cannot afford to make another bad signing at West Ham. The Scot has spent over £235m in the last two summer windows with very few success stories.

But there’s been a lucky escape for West Ham as Everton close on sealing a transfer deal for £30m outcast Keane to join an Italian side.

Salernitana are currently in talks with Keane’s agent as they look to push through a move according to Football Italia.

“The 30-year-old is keen on the idea of playing for an Italian club but is unconvinced by Salernitana, who are circling dangerously close to a brewing relegation battle,” Football Italia reports.

“The Campania outfit will hold a new round of talks with Keane’s agent on Monday, keen to try and convince him of the move.”
