Athletic journalist Adam Crafton has claimed that Liverpool tried to hijack West Ham United’s deal to sign Lucas Paqueta at the last minute.
The Hammers wrapped up a €60 million (£51 million) deal to sign Paqueta from Lyon yesterday (The Sun), but Liverpool apparently made a late attempt to steal him from our grasp.

What a signing the Brazilian is for West Ham.

It seems as though there was a point yesterday when Liverpool tried to prise him away from West Ham’s grasp though…
Liverpool tried to hijack West Ham Paqueta deal
Athletic journalist Adam Crafton told The Athletic Football Podcast how Liverpool showed some interest in the Brazilian:
“The one we heard regarding Liverpool, and he’s gone to West Ham now, is Lucas Paqueta. There was interest from Liverpool but they didn’t seem to act on it.”
So it seems as though West Ham were cutting it really fine in the end.
I can’t tell you how relieved I am that the Hammers have got this one over the line.
Liverpool’s interest in Paqueta proves just how much talent and quality he possesses.
The 33-capped Brazil international is an attacking midfielder by trade but he can also operate on either wing if need be.

The silky left-footed ace has bagged 20 goals and 13 assists in 77 games for Lyon so far. Last season, he racked up 11 goals and seven assists in 44 appearances for the French side (Transfermarkt).
Paqueta possesses exceptional technique, impressive pace and has a real eye for goal and a killer pass.
He seems to have all of the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League and he has that nasty side on the football pitch that is so quintessentially South American as well.
We think that £51 million for Lucas Paqueta is great value for West Ham. He could end up being one of our best signings of the past couple of decades and will undoubtedly take us to another level entirely.
Thankfully, West Ham got the Lucas Paqueta signing over the line before Liverpool could do anything about it.
