A huge free transfer striker chance becomes clear for West Ham as target Marcus Thuram has his summer release confirmed.

With the future of both Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio uncertain beyond this summer, it is no surprise to see West Ham already being linked with interest in a number of forwards.

The Hammers are said to be interested in the likes of Boca and Italy forward Mateo Retegui as well as Coventry City’s brilliant Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres to name just two.

West Ham have also been linked with France forward Marcus Thuram in every single transfer window since David Moyes’ return to London Stadium in 2020.

Moyes has been linked with a move for Thuram for some time as previously reported by the likes of ExWHUemployee and the website FootballFanCast previously.

Last month 90min claimed West Ham are still interested in Thuram ahead of the summer window.

There has been claim and counter claim about Thuram and whether he would sign a new contract at German side Borussia Monchengladbach with his deal expiring at the end of the season.

Now a huge free transfer striker chance becomes clear for West Ham as target Thuram has his summer release confirmed.

The powerful and pacy 25-year-old seems to have everything needed to thrive in the Premier League.

Thuram has scored 16 goals and laid on seven assists in 26 starts for Monchengladbach this season.

And West Ham could land themselves a top player on a free transfer if they can lure Thuram to the London Stadium in the next window.

Monchengladbach have been fighting to persuade Thuram to stay.

But they have now given up and sporting director Roland Virkus confirmed on the club’s official website that the Frenchman will be leaving as a free agent in the summer.

“We were in open communication and knew the current status,” Virkus said.

“It’s a shame that they (Thuram and teammate Ramy Bensebaini) won’t be extending their expiring contracts, because we’ve both given a lot in terms of sport over the past four years.

“It’s always been part of our path over the past few years to bring in such talented players, to develop them further – and at some point let them go because we can’t keep them forever.

“Ideally, we’ll get an attractive transfer fee with these transfers. Of course, it’s not good that that’s not the case now.”

West Ham will have to form an orderly queue for the striker it seems with the likes of Chelsea, Inter Milan and Spurs all linked too.

But guaranteed game time, the chance to be a key player – hopefully in a team competing in the Europa League – and West Ham’s French and French-speaking contingent could be an ace card for the Hammers.
