An update from German journalist Florian Plettenberg gives West Ham hope of a double Stuttgart deal in January.

Any doubts that West Ham need to beef up their squad in the January transfer window would have been eradicated in the last two away games.

A 5-0 thumping at Fulham has been followed by a 5-1 thrashing at Liverpool which could have been double that scoreline.

Those results came amid reports coming from inside the club that West Ham’s players have been complaining to David Moyes of burnout.

As reported on Hammers News, West Ham do plan to be active in the January transfer window.

The caveat is that the club must sell fringe players first to make space in the squad and satisfy FFP rules.

West Ham have been linked with a number of forwards and defenders.

That is perhaps no surprise given the lack of quality in depth in those areas and with Moyes about to lose at least Mohammed Kudus and Nayef Aguerd to AFCON for as many as six games between January and February.

Two players being linked with West Ham are Stuttgart’s 18-goal striker Serhou Guirassy and centre-back Dan-Axel Zagadou.

Duo well known to Steidten

They are players well known to West Ham’s German technical director Tim Steidten.

Now a Florian Plettenberg update gives West Ham hope of a double January deal with Stuttgart.

The Sky Sports Germany reporter has taken to social media to deliver an update on the duo, who have been heavily linked with West Ham of late.

Plettenberg says Stuttgart face a tough task to hold on to the two Hammers targets as it represents their best chance of getting decent value for the duo.

‘Already planning’

“Challenging transfer window for Stuttgart ahead!” Plettenberg said.

“The bosses, including Sports Director Wohlgemuth, are already fully engaged in the planning.

“Release clauses: Guirassy in winter: Less than €20m (£17.5m), Guirassy in summer: Around €20m (£17.5m), Ito in summer: Around €30m (£25m), Zagadou in summer: Around 15m. (£12.5m).”

It has been reported that Zagadou – who can play centre-back and left-back – is a prime target for the Hammers in January.

And Steidten allegedly had his ‘spies’ watching Guirassy again at the weekend ahead of January.

Lines of communication between West Ham and Stuttgart are already established after the Hammers paid the Bundesliga side £17m for Konstantinos Mavropanos in the summer.
