The top source inside West Ham has lifted the lid on the club’s January transfer plans and the bottom line.

Just over two weeks ago Hammers News brought you an exclusive January transfer window update from inside West Ham.

The top source at the club revealed that West Ham are tracking targets for January.

But it was stated that some of the players in West Ham’s sights are due to go to AFCON.

And the Hammers contact also said a key issue was as much about clearing squad space as it was raising funds to satisfy FFP.

Since then there has been all manner of speculation linking West Ham with a plethora of arrivals and departures.

Much of the transfer reporting has revolved around West Ham signing a striker in the winter window.

The likes of Serhou Guirassy, Hugo Ekitike and Armando Broja have been linked.

Now the top source at West Ham has lifted the lid on January transfer plans and the bottom line.

Asked whether the club does intend to make signings, including prioritising a striker, our Hammers contact made it clear players simply must be sold for that to happen as the club is at its FFP wages-to-turnover limit.

‘West Ham at limit’

“We need to move players to buy in January,” the source confirmed to Hammers News.

“Because the wages/turnover ratio of West Ham United is at the maximum allowed.”

There is renewed confidence in West Ham’s recruitment among the fanbase with transfers being headed up by technical director Tim Steidten and majority owner David Sullivan alongside manager David Moyes.

Sporting director Mark Noble also has an input.

But it remains to be seen whether that operation can improve West Ham’s record when it comes to selling players.

It’s never straightforward offloading bit-part or maginalised players. But other clubs seem to manage to get decent fees when moving players on.

And that will clearly now be key to West Ham’s own hopes of bringing players in next month.
